Posting from an older operating system
Yukinu here, just testing out the forum on an older browser (firefox 45.0.2) for an upcoming article.
Re: Posting from an older operating system
Thanks to this being a HTTP-enabled forum, I can also post from super old browsers without having to do any tedious HTTPS modifications.
I still don't know why the doctrine for so many people is "HTTPS everywhere". Unless you transmit seriously sensitive information, there is practically no upsides to SSL. On the contrary, the downside is that it excludes people using non-HTTPS capable browsers.
And let's be honest, nobody seriously man-in-the-middle attacks me because I'm browsing Neocities on Windows 95.
It's the same as those people insulting others for using an older operating system. "It's incredibly insecure!" Okay, fair, but what data do you think I have on my Red Hat Linux 7.1 laptop? Who seriously still exploits attack vectors for that old of an operating system in 2023 anyway? And what are the chances of me stumbling upon their attacks by accident? Aaand if my computer gets broken into, I just wipe the drives. Big deal.

Re: Posting from an older operating system
perhaps its a good thing that some people steer away from older systems due to them being "insecure", as id imagine those people, if we're calling them misinformed, would be likely to make small mistakes which could lead to their sensitive data getting grabbed. the majority of people dont want to / dont know how to be cautious when dealing with older systems, and so id say that they should maintain that theyre insecure. us however? nah, we're fine. you also mentioned that youre not keeping any valuable data on your red hat 7.1 laptop, but im going to assume that thats not your only computer, id also assume that most people dont have multiple desktops / laptops and so theyd be storing all their data on the same device. additionally, attackers probably arent going directly for prehistoric-ahhh operating systems, but driveby attacks are a thing
